Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam

The Martha Mariam Samajam is an organization for the women of Indian Orthodox Church. This Organization was derived to enhance and enlighten the spiritual and social growth of the women of the church. The Martha Mariam Samajam acquired its name from one of the most honored saints of our church who is St. Mary. It is said in Luke 1:28 the angel came to her and said “Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you”. Saint Mary the mother of Jesus was a woman with grace and was truly blessed to give birth to the son of God. In Luke 1:46 it says Mary said “My heard praises the Lord; my soul is glad because of God my savior….” The Women of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church Mira - Bhayandar conduct Martha Mariam Samajam meetings after Holy Qurbana every Sunday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. They join together in prayer, singing devotional songs, reading passages from the Bible, presentation and conduct bible classes. A subject is taken randomly from Bible and is discussed within the MMS group. There are other times when meetings and discussion are lead by our President and Vicar Fr. Geevarghese Abraham or any special guest.

The Martha Mariam Samajam Motto: “Pray, Act and Illuminate”.

The members of the MMS are involved with many of the activities of the church.

• Organize Church refreshments and related activities.

• Pray and comfort the sick and visit those who are confined in the hospitals.

• Fund raising for the needy

The primary goal of the Samajam is the spiritual development of the women of our church through prayer. Prayer is an important aspect of our daily lives. The role of a woman is important in a family; she is an example for the other members of the family. As wives, mothers and homemakers, we must lead a life of prayer that will be beneficial to all those who come into contact with. We want to thank the Almighty God for all the women of this parish and their continuous commitment to honor this parish to the best of their abilities. May the powerful intercession of St. Mary be with us all always. All women are welcome to participate in the life of the Samajam.

MGOCSM

Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (MGOCSM), the student wing of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (Indian Orthodox Church) originated in Madras as a fellowship of students and senior friends which opened its way to an annual Student Conference in Jan 1908.

The next milestone came in 1960, when it was restructured and renamed as MGOCSM after Mar Gregorios of Parumala, its Patron Saint. The high ideals behind finding of the Movement included bringing together the Orthodox Christian students of different educational institutions into one body in order to get them rooted in Orthodox faith and traditions and to strengthen them in spiritual life and Christian fellowship.

The Movement has grown as an international one with about 1500 units all over the world. It has been maintaining inter-disciplinary contacts in the academic field for a long time by the formation of its wings. They are the high school, higher secondary, college-post college wings; University, higher secondary, high school teachers association, medical auxiliary, technical auxiliary, missionary forum, literary forum and publication wing.

The greatest contribution the Movement has made to the Church and society is that it has prepared and provided able and outstanding leaders from time to time. MGOCSM has completed its centenary in 2008, the movement looks forward to venture into new areas and to establish more centres for effective work.

MGOCSM Bombay, Which is headed by H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, conducts annual conference every year in the days of Diwali holidays. Wherein around 400 delegates attend this conference to enrich themselves in spiritual life.

The St. Gregorious MGOCSM in our church is very active and has continuously provided with great leaders for the dioceses. MGOCSM is next step after the students complete Sunday school. MGOCSM actively participates and helps the church in its activities.
